Polaris Slingshot recall for steering repairs

By Peter Chubb - Jan 21, 2015

If you are the owner of a 2105 Polaris Slingshot, then we need to warn that the company has asked that you kindly stop driving them, and has also stopped the sale of any more models. The reason for this is because there is an issue with the steering that could cause a potential accident.

An official Polaris Slingshot recall is expected very soon considering this notice and the fact the company have already ordered repair parts in to rectify the issue. There are some people that believe this could be in relation to the accident that occurred back in December of last year, although Polaris has not openly admitted the fact.

Several owners have already received a phone call about this issue, while others have received letters, like this one. If you have yet to hear anything, then we would advise you contact your nearest dealer because the issue is very serious.

The problem – There could be some Slingshot models that could have been manufactured with substandard ball bearings, which could fail. If one of these bearings or more were to fail this would cause the loss of steering and a worse case scenario cause the driver to crash.

That is not the only issue, as the hoops or rolls bars located behind both seats fail to meet safety standards, and as such will also need to be replaced. It really does make you wonder if the recent crash from last year never happened, would Polaris have know about these faults?

We suspect recalls will begin towards the end of this month, so remember to keep in contact with Polaris.
