2015 MacBook Air 12-inch design features a concern

By Peter Chubb - Jan 6, 2015

The 2015 version of the MacBook Air is said to bring a huge change, not only to its design, but a new size option as well. There have already been plenty of rumors in regard to a new 12-inch MacBook Air, but new images have come to light that raise several concerns with some if its design features.

It is worth remembering first that these details are based on renders taken from information gathered from Apple sources, and so there is room for error in how 9To5 Mac has come up with these artist renditions.

One of the first things you will notice is how much smaller it is over the current 13-inch model and narrower than the 11-inch version. However, it is the power button that is of a concern to us, as it has now been moved to where the ESC key currently is. How many of you will go to hit the wrong key?

Other design changes could see the removal of the full-size USB and MagSafe ports, along with the SD card slot. It is said that there could be just the one port to do it all, but then this poses an issue if you are charging your MacBook Air, yet also wish to connect an external storage device. Not only that, the MagSafe connector has saved so many people from pulling their device after tripping on the power cord, so doing away with this handy connector could be a huge mistake on Apple’s part.

If this truly is the way Apple is going, then we can see many people waiting until the release of the 2015 MacBook Air 12-inch model and then purchase the current 11-inch or 13-inch model at a reduced price.

Once again, this is based on an artist’s rendition and so does not reflect the final product, but if it is close to it, then do you share the same concerns?
