The Crew review fears Vs personal hype

By Alan Ng - Dec 1, 2014

After the backlash regarding Assassin’s Creed Unity, Ubisoft has taken the unusual step in announcing well in advance that there will be no The Crew reviews released until after the game has launched on December 2.

As most of you are now aware, Ubisoft came under criticism for the fact that Assassin’s Creed Unity reviews were published after release.

Now, Ubisoft has made it crystal clear that they will be following the same pattern with The Crew, this time however letting everyone know in advance as transparency is obviously better than silence.

An official statement from the developer can be read in full on their blog here.

It means that those who usually buy games based on the reviews from specialist gaming sites, will not be able to enjoy this luxury this time around.

Reviews will only go out after the game is launched, so everyone will be playing The Crew ‘blind’ so to speak which we actually don’t have a problem with.

It seems to be a thing of the past when gamers bought certain games based on their own feelings and instinct. Now, we are in an industry where reviews count for everything and it’s why there was such a big fuss caused over Assassin’s Creed Unity and subsequently Far Cry 4.

What do you think about the fact that there will be no The Crew reviews for PS4 and Xbox One prior to launch? Will you still go ahead and buy the game at launch anyway based on your own impressions and not needing to hear a second opinion?
