iHome AirPlay Speaker System IW1BC specs highlighted

I can remember the first Bose docking station for my iPhone; it was fantastic with its impressive sound and the added benefit of charging my phone while listening to music. However, times have changed and the thought of holding your smartphone prisoner in such a dock is a horrible thought, as you cannot use it without music playback stopping.

Thankfully, the age of Bluetooth, NFC and WiFi now makes it much easier to play music direct from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and the iHome – AirPlay Speaker System model number IW1BC for Apple iOS devices is a good example.

The portable speaker makes good use of Apple AirPlay and so connects to your WiFi network, giving you complete access to your iTunes library. While some owners of this speaker questions its old technology, you cannot argue with its design because it is understated, yet elegant at the same time.

The specs are not too bad for this wireless speaker, starting with its two 3-inch woofers and two 1-inch high-efficiency tweeters to help deliver a full range of sounds. You can still charge your phone via the USB dock, but the music will not be interrupted when removed.

You can also connect non-iOS devices via a 3.5mm stereo audio cable, although this is not included. We do like the adjustable EQ, something even my Polk Camden Square speaker does not have. Controls are touch-sensitive and comes with a rechargeable battery making it completely portable.

Seeing as though this is one of the older models from the iHome AirPlay Speaker range it’s no wonder the price has dropped to around $50 on Best Buy, which they say is $250 off its normal price.

Some of our readers have been offering their personal reviews of this speaker and while some of them shared their issues, such as not being able to connect to the iPhone 6, along with disappointment with old technology, there is still a lot to love. One thing you could try if you are unable to connect to your device, and that is to update the software within the speaker.
