Panasonic has expanded its H2 Toughbook battery recall for Nov. 2015 by another 98,520 bringing the total number up to 314,926 batteries following all of the other recalls. This new one includes batteries manufactured between June 2011 and September 2012, this is on top of the other ones that were produced between June 2011 and May 2012.
Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries and so this recall is a precaution because there is the possibility these batteries could overheat and in rare cases ignite and explode. You have to admire Panasonic for getting on top of this issue the moment they learned of them, although we have to wonder why there would be such an issue in the first place?
Check your Panasonic H2 Toughbook battery model number – Owners that have one of these computers are asked to check the model number on the batteries, which is a simple process to do. There are two battery slots located on the left and right sides of the computer. Affected model number is CF-VZSU53AW, although there is more to it than that, which you can read in full here.
If you do have an affected battery you are asked to stop using your PC right away and shut it down. You then need to contact Panasonic on (855) 772-8324 and select option 1. Failing that you can email them on H2BatteryProgram@us.panasonic.com.
