New flag emoji collection for Android 5.0 has limitations

By Peter Chubb - Nov 13, 2014

The world seems to have gone crazy for the simpl, yet fun emoji and as time has gone on these little characters have gotten far more creative and brings new light to a conversation. These are often used to show how you are felling, rather than express it in words. Ok, so we know it is a lazy way of communicating, but it is all done in fun. It is for this reason why you will be happy that Android 5.0 Lollipop users will now have support for a new flag emoji collection.

You would be surprised at how many people contacted us expressing their anger for the lack of choice with flags. It is certainly good news that there are now 209 new flag emojis for the latest version of Android, which includes countries like Australia, Brazil and Canada.

There are still several flags missing, and so we ask you check out the new flags and tell us if your country is missing.

However, that is not the only issue, as this latest update does have its limitations, as the new flags do not appear on the keyboard, which means the only way to get them at the moment is to go to Emojipedia and then copy the flag character and paste it into your message – what a long winded way of doing things.
