We have been informed that thousands of GTA V players are getting a can’t download the files error message. These problems are directly related to the GTA V servers going down today, so until they are back up you will continue to see this error message. It’s also hoped that the GTA V 1.18 update will release on Thursday and this maintenance might be in-part directed at launching that new content.
The maintenance for GTA V’s online game will continue until 5PM for those of you in USA (PST), or until 1AM on October 30th in the UK. This is planned maintenance, although many of our readers weren’t sure why they got the can’t download the files error. Even though Rockstar pre-warned the players, many didn’t know that GTA online would go down today.
Are you trying to get online with GTA V and if so, are you getting the can’t download the files error? At the time of writing, it looks like servers won’t come back up for another 5 hours if all goes to plan.
@RockstarSupport I need to play GTA V and I can't because it can't download files from the Rockstar Games Service. What's happening?

There’s a good chance we will see the GTA V 1.18 update with Halloween themed DLC tomorrow. It’s not clear if any of the server downtime is helping to deliver this new DLC, although Halloween is under 2 days away and some hope to see zombie DLC within the next 48 hours.
