Now that Google announced its Nexus 9 Android tablet yesterday this created a bit of a dilemma, one because the Nexus 7 is still a sought after device because its size and price, two because the Nexus 10 has more to offer by way of screen size, but aging hardware, and thirdly, people sitting on the fence with the platform still may consider the iPad mini.
The iPad mini, Nexus 7 and 10 are already on the market and still have a lot to offer, but how much when compared to the Nexus 9? All details you see below will be in order of the Nexus 9 first, followed by the 7, 10 and finally the Retina iPad mini.
The Nexus 9 has an 8.9-inch PS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 compared to a 7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1200 x 1920 pixels, 10.1-inch Super PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen with 2560 x 1600 pixels and a 7.9-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1536 x 2048 pixels.
RAM and Storage
HTC’s new tablet sports 2GB of RAM and a choice of 16GB and 32GB storage options, which is compared to the same for the Nexus 7, and 10. However, the iPad mini with Retina has 1GB of RAM DDR3 and 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB options.
While the megapixels may be the same for three of these tablets, the sensor technology is not, which you can judge for yourself. We have an 8MP, 3264 x 2448 pixels, with autofocus, and LED flash compared to 5MP, 2592 х 1944 pixels, autofocus, 5 MP, 2592 x 1936 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, and 5MP, 2592 х 1944 pixels and autofocus. Technologies for each are as follows: Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection for all three Nexus tablets and Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection and HDR (photo/panorama) for Apple’s mini tablet.
The Nexus 9 has a Non-removable Li-Po 6700 mAh battery, whereas the other three have a Non-removable Li-Ion 3950 mAh battery, Non-removable Li-Po 9000 mAh battery and Non-removable Li-Po 6470 mAh battery.
This is where the biggest difference will be seen as the Nexus 9 will run Android OS, v5.0 (Lollipop), the 7 runs 4.4.4 KitKat, the 10 4.4.2 KitKat and the Retina iPad mini iOS 8.0.2, although could be updated to 8.1 later today.
Dimensions and Weight
The latest Nexus tablet measures 228.2 x 153.7 x 7.9 mm, compared to 200 x 114 x 8.7 mm, 263.9 x 177.6 x 8.9 mm and 200 x 134.7 x 7.5 mm. As for weights these will vary a little depending on storage options and if they are Wi-Fi only or cellular as well. However, the basic weights are 425g, 290g, 603g and 331g.
It’s hard to compare the price for each model as the Nexus 9 will vary on what variant you choose, and we have a feeling the Nexus 7 and 10 will also fall in price due to the release of a new model. This could also be the fact with the iPad mini with retina, as its price could also be reduced today with the unveil of a new model later today.
So there you have it, an outline of how these four tablets differ in terms of specs.
