Xiaomi Mi4 India love not matched by Apple

By Alan Ng - Oct 9, 2014

The Xiaomi Mi4 India release date is closing in and with consumers in the country absolutely loving the China built phone, big guns at Apple are not. Jony Ive, Apple’s head of design has finally broken his silence on similar products that he thinks are effectively stealing, not flattering towards Apple.

While Xiaomi continues to defend their products by saying that they are not iPhone clones, taking a good look at the upcoming Xiaomi Mi4 states otherwise – i.e, the perfect iPhone-esque device at an affordable price to take down the upcoming iPhone 6 and Galaxy Note 4 launches in China.

Speaking at the Vanity Fair Summit this week though, Jony Ive has been careful with his words when talking about the rival devices that continue to copy Apple’s style and theme.

To pick out one quote in particular when asked to elaborate, here is what Ive said in reply:

“I don’t see it as flattery, I actually see it as theft. When you’re doing something for the first time, for example with the phone, and you don’t know it’s going to work, and you spend seven or eight years working on something, and then it’s copied — I have to be honest, the first thing I think isn’t ‘ooh, that was flattering’.”

The problem is though, is that the Xiaomi bandwagon is too far ahead to stop at this point. Xiaomi has certainly hit their niche right now, especially when you consider that their range of smartphones are immensely popular in India compared to other markets.

Apple may not like the fact that their style has been copied, but it looks like they are powerless to stop it regardless. Can you admit to looking at the Xiaomi Mi4 as your next smartphone purchase ahead of the iPhone 6 and Galaxy Note 4?
