O2 UK warn network upgrade problems by text

- Oct 3, 2014

O2 UK is currently performing network upgrades across the country and are sending out text messages warning their customers about the chance of an O2 outage. In fact, when they send the text warning about possible network problems they also detail a window for work to take place along with precise post codes.

You can see an official O2 UK text message below, which the mobile phone network sent to an iPhone 6 Plus users on their network. We’ve also heard from a few iPad owners that own the cellular option, not Wi-Fi only, and use O2 for 3G/4G internet access while mobile.

As you can see within the text message above, O2 will offer your exact postcode and explain the work will be carried out within the next couple of days. O2 state, “there’s a chance it might affect your service”.

It’s not clear exactly what work is being carried out by O2, but they do include a link within the text message and this details information on making their network faster. Worryingly, you’ll also be told when this work starts you “may not be able to text, call, or get online” while they’re working in your area.

Have you received one of these O2 UK network upgrade messages for your area? If so, did you notice problems or a total O2 network outage? We have seen tweets detailing O2 going down in certain cities, villages, and signal issues but nothing major today.

O2 UK call problems lead to spying

I recommend that users download TU GO app or even BT smart talk and use Wifi if you do become effected. You will still be able to keep in touch this way. Another tip is that many telephone boxes both by BT and Arqiva have wifi. So if youre out and about, you can use O2 TU GO or BT smart talk to keep connected.

Using VoIP apps such as TU GO for emergency services is not recommended as they cannot locate you easily and maybe better to use a BT payphone.

I haven’t received a text but my wife and I are having issues with making and receiving calls. Internet is fine and so are texts but calls are very hit and miss. I’m in Rickmansworth, North West London.
