PS Plus October update with Indie game Vs Retail

By Alan Ng - Sep 30, 2014

We are potentially just hours away from finding out the official PS Plus October 2014 games list on PS4 and PS3. Once again, owners of both consoles are very eager to find out what’s coming, with dividing fans torn on whether they want to see more indie games or full retail games.

As most of you will be well aware, Sony are yet to deliver on full retail ‘big name’ games with PS Plus. However, October is going to change that trend as Sony are finally ready to offer Driveclub as one of the games made available for free as initially promised months ago.

The good thing about this, is that Sony has already confirmed however that Driveclub won’t be included in the two free PS4 games for October PS Plus, meaning that there will be a total of three games available in October.

The obvious question that many are asking is what these two games will be and given the fact that Driveclub is coming, does it give Sony an easy ‘excuse’ to offer another two smaller indie games to balance things out?

Indie games are by no means a bad thing in our opinion. Those who have played the likes of Fez and Towerfall Ascension will agree that they are easily some of the best games available on PS4 right now – ahead of any so-called ‘retail’ game that users crave so much.

We keep hearing rumors suggesting that games such as Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag could be up for contention, but we still think it is far too early for Sony to be giving away these kinds of $60 games – we’re guessing Ubisoft won’t be willing to agree just yet either.

Are you on the same boat in thinking that more PS4 indie games are a good thing, or do you firmly want to see a big game from Sony now this October? Put it this way, if we see Driveclub, Knack and an indie game offered for October, would this be deemed as Sony being ‘too generous’, or is it what you expected to see anyway after signing up for PS Plus?
