While the world continues to mourn one of the most-loved faces on the planet Robin Williams, this week we wanted to tell you about the growing numbers on a petition that has started – aiming to get Robin Williams into the new Legend of Zelda game for Wii U.
We have already seen confirmation from Blizzard that Robin Williams will be immortalized in World of Warcraft after Williams himself loved playing MMO games. Now it seems that fans want the same treatment from Nintendo – after Robin Williams’ love for the Zelda franchise even culminated in naming his daughter ‘Zelda’ after the series.
We would love for it to happen too as a fitting tribute and now Nintendo has officially responded. Here is the statement that they gave to Polygon after news of the petition in question had reached over 100,000 signatures:
“We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of fans to honour him in a future game. We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close.”
While this is obviously not a confirmation at this point, it’s great to at least see Nintendo acknowledging the demand. It would not be technically difficult to put an NPC character in the next game called Robin Williams, so let’s hope that it happens.
It would be the perfect tribute to a game that most Nintendo fans will buy and a game that Robin probably would have loved with his daughter too. Let us know if you have signed this petition and would love to see Robin Williams in the new Zelda game on Wii U.
We’ve added a video below showing Robin and his daughter Zelda talking about their love for Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda franchise.
