If you haven’t heard already, there has been a massive announcement in the gaming world. Resident Evil is going to be getting the remaster treatment and the classic horror game is going to be released on PS4 and Xbox One platforms.
The 1996 original on PlayStation remains one of the best horror games of all time and easily the best Resident Evil game in the entire series. Capcom has been trying to emulate that success ever since and now we can see that rather than keep making new games – they are just giving the 1080p treatment for a win win situation with the fans.
We don’t have a Resident Evil PS4 and Xbox One release date for you yet, but we can show you a video from the Japanese developers confirming this as a remaster, rather than a remake.
Pay special attention to the fact that they are keen to leave the core mechanics of the original game untouched as to not ruin or change the gameplay experience that was so special back in 1996.
Although many fans love to see remakes rather than remasters, we think this is one rare occasion where Capcom has done the right thing and preserved the original where possible.
Aside from PS4 and Xbox One versions, the game will also be made available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 so Capcom are set to make a lot of money on this one. Watch the video for screenshots taken from the game but be aware that they are from PS3 and Xbox 360 versions only – so not next-gen yet.
What is your reaction to the fact that the original Resident Evil is coming back in 1080p HD? Is this a great decision by Capcom? Let’s hope that they do the same with Breath of Fire 3 next.
