Not being an Apple developer makes it a little tougher to offer you a firsthand opinion on things such as the latest iOS 8 beta, along with the newest version of OS X Yosemite beta. As a result, our very own developer has been able to share some insight with us, although this is not needed as much now with the upcoming Mac operating system seeing how Apple made a version of it available to the public.
Downloading the new software was fast thanks to a decent connection speed, although installing it on my 2009 MacBook Air took a long time. The good thing was there was no sort of issues, which is more than I can say for some people who were having issues with the special code Apple gave with Yosemite public preview.
Improved MacBook Air battery life after installing Yosemite – I hardly turn my 2009 MacBook Air off, and when running Mavericks the battery life would only last a little less than a week before being drained completely, although it still manages to store onto the RAM before entering hibernation, just so everything is there waiting for you when you do charge the battery up.
I can fully understand that a battery will not last as long because of the number of times it has been charged, along with leaving it plugged in for long periods of time to the power outlet. However, since installing Yosemite I have seen a clear improvement in battery life, as I can now go an extra couple of days before the battery drains.
Ok, so I know that some of you will wonder why keep a MacBook Air that is now five years old, and the answer is a simple one, it still works with no issues, apart from the battery not lasting as long, and getting a bit hot when running videos. It would just be a waste of a good laptop if I were to replace it with a new one.
That’s not the only positive since installing Yosemite, as it also seems to wake-up much quicker while asleep, it’s almost instant, much like it was all those years ago. I hope to test out a few of the features in the public version of Yosemite, although they are limited when compared to the beta versions.
What improvements have you noticed since installing OS X 10.10 Yosemite onto your Mac?
