With the Windows 8.1 update 2 release date scheduled this month, you would think that Microsoft is looking ahead to update 3? Well, that could be a wrong assumption because there is a strong chance that the release of Windows 9 could take precedence.
The second update for Windows 8.1 is due for public release on August 12th and to your delight will not be a mandatory one, great news seeing as though we know users hate to install a new update because of the many bugs and other problems that often occur.
One would assume that because update 2 is only expected to offer some minor improvements Windows 8.1 update 3 would be needed in order to deliver bigger changes, so why might this not be the case?
It had been assumed that update 2 was going to be a big update, although it now looks as though many of its features will be held back and made part of Threshold, or Windows 9 to you and I. if this is the case, then 8.1 will have its final update this month, and users will have to wait until spring 2015 before Microsoft releases its next version of Windows.
Having said that, seeing as though Microsoft has yet to come out an offer any news in regards to its desktop operating system, you have to wonder if they plan to move the release of Windows 9 forward – who knows, maybe even this October?
ZDNet says that there will still be small monthly updates for 8.1, but only for bugs and fixes, so no new features. This could go either way for Microsoft, and only the release of Windows 9 -whenever that will be – will tell us if it was the right choice or not.
