Next-gen Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 design details

By Updated on

It is no secret that BMW and Toyota are working together to share a platform to be used on two very different models, the next-gen Supra and Z4. We already knew that we could look to the Toyota FT-1 concept for guidance of what we can expect from these two sporty models, although we do know that because this project is still in its early stages, there is bound to be change.

The latest news in regards to the design of the new Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 is that while they will share the same platform, they will be styled very differently. We know this is a rather obvious statement, but this announcement that we learned from Motor Trend WOT confirms there are to be two models.

In the past there had been suggestions that the German and Japanese manufacturers could be working on just the one model, and so put doubt on an all-new Supra, and so this seems to bring new life to the hopes and dreams of many of you from the 80s and 90s who have been willing this project on.

BMW is said to be taking care of manufacturing seeing as though it is able to handle a good supply of carbon fiber from its SGL plant. We have also learned that the new Z4 will have a carbon fiber tub, but not sure if this will also be the case for the Supra, although we suspect it will.

One would presume that Toyota will take care of the engine department seeing as though BMW will have its hands full with the body. Having said that, we cannot be certain if BMW would wish to put a Toyota engine in one of its vehicles, and if this is the case, then what will the Japanese company be bringing to the table in this joint effort?
