Microsoft Surface mini price and battery life will be key

By Updated on

When Microsoft announced its Surface event we had hoped to see the mini make an appearance, but that was not to be because it was all about the Surface Pro 3. Let’s not take it away from the newer model, as it packed a few much-needed upgrades, although it’s not what consumers wanted to see.

We have already looked at some of the Surface mini features needed in order for it to be a success, and having had a long hard look, we believe that its price and battery life will be key. You might wonder why we are talking about something that might not even happen, but we have an update on this.

According to WinBeta, during the Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft’s COO, Kevin Turner said that this year would see a cheaper and smaller Surface device, which can only mean the mini?

Is this confirmation that the Surface mini will be released this year, as we think so? Having said that, Microsoft seems to have confused us, seeing as though they also hinted recently that the mini would not be released until some time in 2015, so which is it to be?

Going back to what will make the smaller Surface a success, one would presume that a smaller model would mean better battery life, but this is not always the case. However, one thing is certain, its price will be lower than the larger models, which will allow more consumers to get it.

Surface mini to follow a trend – The iPad costs a lot, and so the introduction of the iPad mini allowed loads of people to get the tablet as a Christmas gift when the first generation model was release. It is for this very reason why the release of the Surface mini could see a spike in sales for Microsoft, and so a release close to the holiday season would be imperative for its success.
