2015 Jeep Cherokee complaints over social media fail

By Updated on

When the new Jeep Cherokee was first released there was a great deal of controversy over the design of its front-end. However, it is amazing that over time we get used to something ugly, just like those horrible noses on F1 cars. Now drivers seem to love the design and have been buying them at a pretty healthy rate, but maybe not enough in Australia.

We have to wonder why Jeep Australia would wish to start a promotion allowing 10 lucky people to walk away with a 2015 Jeep Cherokee for $10,000 Australian? There always has to be a reason for promotional campaigns like this, although those who win will never complain.

It would seem that this promotional campaign was seen as a social media fail because so many people were unable to even enter the competition. In order to be in with a chance to get this SUV for $10,000 you first had to download and install an app, and at 9 am AEST today displayed the pre-programmed number for you to call.

One of the issues that has led to several complaints was the number itself, as the number had managed to leak out, meaning some people had an unfair advantage. Another issues was that people were unable to get through, no matter how many times they called.

These people who are complaining have to realize that the app was downloaded 49,000 times and had attracted over 30,000 calls. This has not stopped two Facebook pages being created that condemn the campaign, and says that it was a shambles from start to finish.

We wonder if Jeep Australia will reply to the many complaints they have received and maybe offer some sort of goodwill gesture, or just put it down to people being bitter?

Most people, like myself are not happy that the app never displayed the number to call at the end of the timer, therefore not giving a lot of people the chance to actually be in the running. If I had the number at the end of the timer, and was unable to get through, so be it. But not being given the number until a minute after the phone lines opened is unacceptable.
