We now know that the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda Wii U game has been given a release date in 2015. However, with many gamers assuming that the title would be single-player only, now we have increased speculation brewing which may tease the possibility of multiplayer being featured in the game.
Considering that Zelda has traditionally been a single-player only franchise, this is a massive deal and a potential game changer for the series. Four Swords was the last multiplayer that we tasted and we absolutely loved that game on the GameBoy Advance.
Now, it looks like Nintendo may finally be changing some key mechanics with the Wii U release next year. Just listen to this quote from series product Eiji Aonuma when speaking recently to GameInformer:
“When I was talking back about making Zelda more than just a single-player experience? That’s something you will see in the future, maybe next year.”
As you can see, he is definitely teasing multiplayer and seemingly confirming it at the same time too by saying that we will see it next year, which makes it more than just a rumor.
The big question is that he hasn’t mentioned which game he is referring to of course. Remember that Hyrule Warriors is due out later this year, so he can’t be talking about the Dynasty Warriors crossover which will feature multiplayer.
With Wii U Zelda due out next year, it looks promising. Surely Nintendo doesn’t have another Zelda game lined up to release in 2015 – so it can only be the one Zelda game which he is referring to at this point?
Exciting stuff indeed. Let us know what you think about this and if you would love to see an open-world multiplayer for the game next year – how would Nintendo be able to make it work in your opinion?
