Those of you who have become disillusioned with the state of PS Vita gaming, with a lack of top name titles releasing this year, finally have some answers. Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has admitted that Sony’s focus on delivering 1st-party games for the Vita has shifted.
In a revealing interview, the boss of Sony Worldwide Studios has given PS Vita owners some news that they perhaps had been fearing since the start of the year. We are big fans of Sony’s handheld with its gorgeous 5-inch OLED, but most will agree that it has somewhat failed to live up to expectation and this is partly due to a lack of big name titles.
COD Black Ops Declassified was a classic example of a game that everyone thought would be unbelievable on PS Vita, but turned out to be the complete opposite. It was billed as the game that would show the PS Vita being able to run a full Call of Duty console game on handheld.
Instead it offered a terrible experience, with small maps and cut content from the console version everywhere you looked – the ending result being a 33 user rating on Metacritic, which tells you all you need to know.
It’s a similar story with the Bioshock on PS Vita situation as well – where is the game after years of promise? To help explain why the Vita is not doing as well as it should, here is a quote from Yoshida when speaking to Polygon recently and asked whether we would now see less first-party games on PS Vita moving forward.
“I would say, yes, that’s correct.”
It appears that the focus is now going to be on Indie games instead. While this is pleasing for those that love playing unknown titles, it may not be the conclusion that PS Vita launch buyers were hoping to see after putting their faith (and their cash) in Sony’s handheld.
Will the Vita now become a system that is used primarily for playing PS4 and PS3 titles via Remote Play and PS Now respectively? If you bought your system at launch, give us your reaction to this.
Are you happy with the way things have turned out with the Vita, or do you agree that it has been a massive disappointment in terms of having AAA games on the system?
