Popcorn Time iPad, iPhone app safety questioned

By Alan Ng - Jun 12, 2014

As most of you are well aware, Cartoon HD app is down and gone forever. The controversial app had thousands of users and had been met with mass disappointment after fans realized that a Cartoon HD return wouldn’t be happening.

As a result, we have been getting messages from users who are still looking for a Cartoon HD app alternative as a replacement. It appears that the one app that everybody is turning to at the moment is called Popcorn Time – an app which we told you about back in March.

At the moment, Popcorn Time is only available as a desktop app or on Android – i.e a Popcorn Time iPad or iPhone app download still isn’t available. As we’ve discovered though, this could be a blessing in disguise in actual fact.

There are some whispers circulating that the code used within Popcorn Time may be dangerous for you to install on your device. Some sources have said that the developers who created the app could well find and share your computer’s personal data if they wanted to.

Aside from giving access to copyrighted content which is a big no no anyway, this issue is probably a good reason why Google recently removed Popcorn Time from the Google Play store which was recently live just a few days ago.

This is good enough evidence to suggest that a Popcorn Time app on iPad or iPhone will not be happening any time soon, despite the cries on Twitter from users who say they ‘desperately’ need it to get over their Cartoon HD hangover.

Are you still reeling over the removal of Cartoon HD despite knowing that the app was never going to last forever? Popcorn Time may be one alternative, but potentially harmful if you try to install – give us your thoughts on this.

The embedded tweet doesn’t say Popcorn Time isn’t safe. It is saying a clone has been forked to access data, not the original.
