The Grand Theft Auto V 1.14 update will be released next week along with Heists DLC, but the big news at E3 was GTA V launching on PS4, PC, and Xbox One later on this year. There’s promise of much more content being included with the new versions, which should feature a lot more wildlife, weapons, cars, and all GTA V DLC launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 by fall.
This all sounds great, but it looks like the PS4 version of GTA V might get some exclusive content this time around rather than Microsoft taking the lead like they do with Call of Duty timed exclusive DLC.
Clues towards Rockstar partnering with Sony – it’s evident in a number of places and most noticeable is the text at the end of Rockstar’s announcement trailer stating, “captured on PlayStation 4”. Then we have the fact that Sony’s conference at E3 2014 told the world about the game coming to not only PS4, but also PC and Xbox One.
It is not clear what sort of deal is being done between Rockstar and Sony, but SCEA’s John Koller did reveal something when asked if there’s going to be exclusive GTA V PS4 DLC. After explaining nothing has been released “publicly” yet, he then teased “there will be” some details in the coming weeks.
If you haven’t purchased a PS4 yet, would you pickup a retail GTA V PS4 console bundle later in 2014? Continuing to tease fans by saying GTA V is “very special on PlayStation”, and Rockstar clearly know there’s a large number of PlayStation owners that love the franchise and this was clear by the index rate for PS3.
Personally, we expect the Rockstar and Sony PS4 partnership to include bundles, exclusive DLC, and more to encourage sales on both sides.
