FIFA 14 World Cup update downgrade for Messi

By Alan Ng - May 28, 2014

As most of you are aware, EA is offering a massive FIFA 14 Ultimate Team World Cup 2014 update to all players for free. This update will bring some big changes to the game, not to mention offering new World Cup cards such as Lionel Messi.

EA has already given a preview of some of the new World Cup cards but as you may have noticed, some players have been downgraded. We can already see that Barcelona’s superstar Lionel Messi is one of these players as he has a World Cup overall rating of 94, compared to the 98 team of the year card that he has for Barcelona this Season.

Some may disagree with the downgrade though, as it seems like EA are going to reward Ronaldo with a better FIFA 14 Ultimate Team World Cup card, since he has had a better season than Messi and won this year’s Ballon D’Or award.

As you can see from the image, the latest Messi card has lost 5 for pace, 7 for shooting, 3 for dribble and even 8 for passing. Messi obviously hasn’t had an amazing season compared to his high standards of a few years ago, but do you think this is slightly harsh by EA here?

If given the choice, most of you will obviously prefer to play Messi with his 98 team of the year card rather than the 94 card. Let us know what you think about this and if you think Messi deserves his downgrade or not.
