In case you missed the massive news earlier this week, Microsoft will finally sell an Xbox One without Kinect. As a result, the console will match PS4 pricing at $399 and Microsoft has said that they are confident it will now allow them to catch up with PS4 sales.
This is obviously the news that many Xbox fans have been waiting to see and it is perhaps somewhat surprising that this has come before E3 2014 when it could have been more beneficial to announce this on a global stage during Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference.
The Xbox One without Kinect price will be $399 though and it now means that many consumers will get their way after insisting that they wouldn’t purchase the console whilst Microsoft were forcing the camera on everyone.
Microsoft has been speaking about the big change and how this will affect the PS4 Vs Xbox One sales battle moving forward. The company’s Chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi gave a recent interview to Forbes and this is what he had to say on what the price will mean for Xbox One sales Vs PS4:
“They’re in many more markets right now than we are. They’re in 40+ markets, we’re in 13. People have been more satisfied with the Xbox 360 than the PS3, so in that respect people have less of a need to upgrade in the short term due to regular updates for the Xbox 360.”
As you can see, Mehdi is alluding to the fact that PS4 has only sold more than Xbox One simply due to Sony’s console being available in more countries than the Xbox One.
With the price cut now in tact, this gap may now be cut down and it will be interesting to see just how many gamers are now willing to take Microsoft up on their offer – over half a year later.
It’s also worth thinking about how Sony will react to this now that they know their console will be priced at a level playing field with Microsoft.
If you are yet to buy the Xbox One, let us know if you are now strongly considering a purchase with the price set at $399 without Kinect. Does this change everything for you, or do you still believe that Sony offers the best package for $399?
