There are hot hatches, and then there are mega hot hatches, with the all-new Ford Focus RS fitting nicely into the latter category. The competition is tough in this market, and two heavyweights set to make an appearance next is the 2015 Honda Civic Type R, which will take the fight to the Focus and the Mercedes A45 AMG.

We never expected to see these cars being tested or reviewed side-by-side until a month or two before the new Type R hits the market, and so we were taken by surprise when a 2015 Honda Civic Type R vs. Mercedes A45 AMG test was carried out.

Auto Evolution reports that Honda was seen at the Nurburgring with its new car and the German rival, and we see it that they stuck their middle finger up at Mercedes, because they have to believe that the all-new Civic Type R will be able to take on the impressive A45 AMG.

Mercedes A45 AMG showdown

The Japanese carmaker has yet to share the details of the outcome of the 2015 Honda Civic Type R vs. Mercedes A45 AMG showdown, but it won’t matter much anyway, not when Mercedes GLA45 AMG is released in 2015, as this will be an even sportier version of the A45.

If you were looking to see just how well the 2015 Honda Civic Type R performs on the Nurburgring, then we have a video for you below of the car being put through its paces.

The test driver is not holding back either because you can hear the screaming from the tires, as they try their best to get as much traction as possible through the bends. Saying that, the 2015 Honda Civic Type R handling seems very impressive, but then these are tests in controlled conditions.

To help offer a comparison, we have embedded a second video, this time of the Mercedes A45 AMG driven to its limits during a test drive at Nurburgring. Try watching them one after the other to see which attacks the corners and carries more speed into them.
