It is unlike Apple to step away from their normal launch pattern, with any such change rarely happening, but this is exactly what the latest rumors claim and could impact any new iPad launch date for a 6th generation Apple tablet or iPad Air 2. The latest rumor claims the iPhone 6 release date could land in August, not the first time we’ve heard this with past models, and while we find it hard to believe any such event date change could also impact the new 2014 iPad release date.
Apple normally sticks to September for next-gen iPhones, but the latest report by Economic Daily News claims we might see an iPhone 6 unveiled the month before. The reason given for a change is due to a 4.7-inch iPhone and 5.5-inch model rumored to release this year, and while Apple launched the iPhone 5S with 5C in 2013, the report suggests things will be different in 2014. This could change the schedule of events that follow the smartphone launch, so of course this would firstly include any new generation of iPad.
We previously saw a schematic hinting at Apple’s plan to finally deliver a phablet, and how the iPad 6 size might be signaled on the new iPhone launch date if we do see a phablet. This change in device sizes will open up room for a bigger iPad at around 13-inches, and bring a new iPhone phablet closer to the size of an iPad mini.
13-inch iPad next to iPhone phablet – there’s a few ways Apple might play the unveiling of both new iPads and iPhones. If a 4.7-inch iPhone only launches in August, then we could see a new 13-inch iPad on stage next to an Apple iPhone phablet in September. These would be totally new products, so if an iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 refresh feature, they won’t be given the same limelight. This possibility certainly feels like the best idea, considering sizes and entry into bigger displays, which they could even call “A bigger canvas for Apple”.
