Leica T Type 701 production process inflates price

By Updated on

We have already seem some very positive Leica T camera reviews, although they are only limited at this time until more people are able to get their hands on these new units. However, one thing is rather clear, and that is the production process of the Leica T Type 701 unibody is labor intensive, and so will inflate its price.

Leica T Type 701 price inflated – The reason why the price is inflated is due to the fact that each unibody is polished by hand, which you can see a Leica T Type 701 mirrorless camera polishing video below. The video might be of interest to some of you, but it doesn’t take long before it gets boring, and so ideal if you have trouble getting to sleep.

It would be interesting to see how this hand-finished unibody compares to that of one finished with a machine, as we would get a good idea of how they differ, and whether the labor intensive cost is worth it or not?

Having said that, there is always a nice feeling when you hold something in your hand knowing it has been built by hand and not a robot. Having said that, this is only the polishing process because no doubt the unibody has been produced in a CNC machine of some sort.

There does seem to be a great concern that Leica should start to look more closely at how they should build a camera with the best quality, and not use a man to do a job that a machine can do pretty well. However, I would disagree with that, as there are already a huge number of camera makers doing a similar thing, and so it is nice to see Leica sticking with tradition as much as they can.

Do you think there is a difference with hand polishing rather than a machine polishing the Leica T Type 701 body?

  • Expensive not better

I don’t believe this hand polishing method is any better than the machine polishing. It just another price gouging method to let some people believe thier camera is “superior” than others, because “mine one is more expensive than yours!”

Price gouging would be polishing it by machine and still charging the same price.
