UK broadband speed test at street level

By Updated on

Are you satisfied with your current broadband speed in the UK? Many consumers are not at the moment and this has been proven in a new analysis looking at a broadband speed test at street level.

It’s no secret that the UK is lagging behind other countries in Europe, with many consumers unable to boast ‘superfast’ broadband speeds, which is now a basic requirement for households in Sweden and other countries across the EU.

Consumers have been asking themselves the constant question ‘what my street broadband speed is’, since more often than not many consumers will be waiting hours upon hours for a single movie to download. While in other countries, this simple and basic task is completed in mere minutes.

The UK broadband speed gap is so large at the moment and it’s no surprise to see consumers not happy about it. A new examination compiled by uSwitch has concluded that only 15% of UK residents have access to broadband speeds of 30Mbps or higher.

Digging deeper, the study also found that one street in Wales only has the ability to access download speeds of 0.60 megabytes a second, which is 30 times slower than the UK national average. Painfully slow in other words and obviously a big wake up call that speeds need to be improved on across the country.

It’s also somewhat mind boggling that the majority of consumers will be happy to admit that their current 4G LTE speeds achieved via their mobile phones are much faster than their home broadband speeds.

Is this a trend that needs to be looked at sooner rather than later? Let us know your average broadband street in your area and whether you too belong in the group of having a faster phone data speed than home broadband.
