2014 iPod touch release doubts premature

By Updated on

Doubts over the release of the iPod touch 6th generation came to light a couple of weeks ago because the device never appeared in an analyst’s 2014 Apple product roadmap, but neither did a few other items. We cannot take one person’s word for it that the iPod touch 6G will not be released this year, but are there other forces at work here?

Since people heard of another analyst suggesting that the iWatch will replace the iPod line in time, this has now led some of you to assume that Apple is to discontinue the iPod sooner rather than later.

We know that Apple has seen sales of the iPod line slowly fall in recent years, but what makes anyway think the iWatch is the answer? The first flaw with Christopher Caso’s research is that Apple has yet to say the iWatch exists, and while rumors suggest it does, we still have no way of knowing.

Let’s say the iWatch will be released, what’s saying sales will be any better than the iPod range? The market is starting to become saturated with smartwatches, so you have to wonder why Apple has yet to jump on the bandwagon?

There are many of you out there who believe that the smartwatch market will take off in a huge way like the smartphone and tablet market, but there is no evidence just yet. Having said that, maybe it takes Apple to release the iWatch to mix the market up and create the platform rivalry we have come to enjoy from Android and iOS?

We still believe that the release of the iPod touch 6th generation will be later this year, with October 2014 very likely. As for its design, we expect it will be the same size as the iPhone 6, so 4.7 inches, although will be slightly thinner.

Even though Apple has slowed down the release schedule of the iPod touch, it makes more sense to release a new model every two years rather than one.
