Google Camera iOS app hearsay

By Daniel Chubb - Apr 20, 2014

Originally, we thought that the Google Camera app would see an iOS release at some point in the future and even made an error thinking it had already launched. After a little more investigation it is now obvious that this became diluted rumor, or even hearsay and there’s no official iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch release date for the new Google Camera app at the time of writing.

This news originated thanks to Google mentioning that “more devices” would get the camera app and they were only “just getting started”. While more devices can mean Apple hardware in the future, it’s now believed that Android 4.4+ KitKat support and current devices will be expanded to include older software versions and more handsets in the coming weeks.

There’s certainly a demand for the Google Camera iOS app, as seen on the official Google Plus posts. “Please Google, bring the camera app to iOS and my iPhone 5S. I would love to use a different camera app like this”, said one iOS user on Google Plus.

You can see a review of the Google camera app in an earlier article, and see the message by the official Android community page on Google Plus right here. This is where you can clearly see that Google mentioned the camera app support for Android 4.4+ KitKat along with an indication that a future update will bring Google Camera “to more devices”.

We have also received feedback from Product Reviews readers detailing Android teething issues with Google’s camera app. One commenter explained, “HDR does not work with my Moto X” and another added, “I have issues with photo sphere and panoramic photos”.

Would you like to see the new Google Camera app release for iOS? If so, leave a comment below and detail any changes you would like to see with an iPad or iPhone version. There has been no official word on an iOS version at the time of writing and we have reached out to Google for a comment, so keep connected to Product Reviews for more details in the coming weeks.
