It was back in May 2013 that Lewis Hamilton helped with the launch of the Mercedes AMG Petronas BBM Channel, and while I’m a McLaren fan, I can’t help appreciate how impressive the F1 outfit has been so far this season. With back-to-back wins, it seems rather fitting that its BBM Channel has reached a milestone.
That landmark would be reaching 100,000 subscribers, which we have to say is rater impressive. The F1 team has BlackBerry as a major title sponsor, although we have to wonder how long that relationship will keep going considering BlackBerry’s issues?

Mercedes AMG Petronas were one of the first brands to launch its own BBM channel, and in the first three months of 2014 has seen a massive spike in subscribers, 150 percent to be precise. 100,000 subscribers in less than a year is a pretty good achievement.
The spike in subscribers is not luck, as it has come down to several factors, the first is the popularity of Lewis himself, the second, being released on Android and iOS, and thirdly, the huge success the team has had in the first two races of the Formula 1 season.
If you are new to F1 and were considering supporting a team, then obviously I’d say McLaren first, but Mercedes would be a good second choice for two reasons, first is Lewis Hamilton, and second is the fact that I drive a Mercedes.
