From the moment we saw the first Google Glass prototype, we knew that people would have an issue with its strange design. It’s all very well having this new technology on your head, but in order for people to truly embrace the technology it needs to be discreet.
We know that it is hard to make a pair of glasses discreet considering the technology packed inside, but we have seen other smart glasses makers offer a unique alternative to Google Glass.
Sunglasses are a big business and so it makes sense to see top designers come forward to offer their input, which is why we are not surprised to learn that Luxottica has signed a deal with Google.
What’s so significant about this is the fact that Luxottica owns many of the top sunglasses brands, such as Ray-Ban Oakley, Versace to name but a few.
You don’t have to be a fashion expert to know that Luxottica has a monopoly on the sunglasses market, and there is a fear that they could do the same when it comes to the designer versions of Google Glass.
While some of you will see this as a negative, we are not forced into buying these items, and if Luxottica is prepared to fill a need and to try to make Google Glass just as much a fashion accessory as Internet-connected Glass eyewear, then who are we to argue?
