The Instagram app for Windows Phone has been updated to version 0.4, bringing a new feature to the photo sharing service. The most notable additions is a lock screen effect which produces a new image from your Instagram feed rather than the same old background picture you normally have saved.
Update 0.4 is by no means an overhaul, it looks like the sole lock screen feature has been added without any other additions. The Instagram app for Windows Phone is still in beta and has received several minor updates since launch, including bug fixes, crash patches and additional features.
The new feature now allows you to choose between the home feed or my feed to display on your lock screen, updating to a different photo each time you access your device. The constant retrieval and refreshing of the Instagram app could significantly drain your battery life, so consider this before enabling the feature.
Instagram users on Windows Phone may have been expecting the beta to end and the app to be released in its full form with more of the features that we have seen on the versions offered by iOS and Android. Whilst this is a smart little feature, the minor nature of the update may be disappointing to some owners who feel they deserve more.
In general Windows Phone users love the Instagram app, there is a small amount that have experienced some issues though and want more from updates. For example we saw an Android update last week which completely overhauled the app for users and brought a host of new features and fixes.
Windows Phone owners, are you pleased with this new Instagram addition or do you want more?
