Galaxy S3, Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update looming

By Updated on

Back in February we gave you the complete list of Samsung’s 4.4 Kitkat US update list, which as you know included the Galaxy S4 and Note 3. However, Galaxy S3 and Note 2 owners were left with a sour taste in their mouths because they were not going to receive the latest Android update just yet.

Don’t despair though because you might not have to wait long for the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 if a leaked image is anything to go on. It’s worth pointing out that the leaked document showing the KRT16 update schedule from Samsung has an error in model numbers on it, and so this could be a fake.

However, let’s say that this was just a minor mistake and this Android 4.4 KitKat update roadmap from Samsung is the real deal, then we are sure it will make S3, Note 2 and the Galaxy Grand 2 owners very happy because it will give their devices a new lease of life.

If this is in fact the real deal, then all three handsets will get their KitKat updates between April and May, although we do not have specific dates.

Samsung has yet to confirm anything on this, but Galaxy S3 and Note 2 owners are waiting in anticipation now that they have seen a tentative release date. There had been rumors earlier this year that these smartphones were getting the KitKat upgrade in March, and with no sign of Samsung making an announcement, it’s not looking good, and so this is why some of you will have a hard time believing this latest leak.

Let’s not lose sight of the facts – Android 4.4 KitKat is officially coming to these devices because Samsung and some US carriers have already confirmed this, although they have yet to offer us a timescale of when its release will be.

There have been rumors that some Galaxy S3 models might miss out on the KitKat update altogether, but only those that have 1GB of RAM. There is no such issue for the Note 2 because they all come with 2GB of RAM. Having said that, it’s worth staying optimistic just until we know for certain.

If you own a Galaxy S3 or Note 2 and are hoping that Android 4.4 KitKat will completely transform your handset, then you will be left feeling disappointed. Okay, there are some significant changes along with new features and bug fixes, but nothing major.

Once the update does rollout, then you have to accept the fact that KitKat will be the last Android update for these smartphones because they are now getting on a bit, although most of you must have already known this.
