The colossal popularity of World of Warcraft over the years appears to be burdening the upcoming Warcraft movie. WOW’s success has added pressure to the movie’s actors and producers who are cautious about not being able to fulfill fan’s expectations, which will be sky high.
Blizzard’s globally played role playing game is being adapted for the big screen, which feels like a really exciting prospect given the technology available to film and gaming at the moment. Dominic Cooper who is one of the leading actors set to star in the movie has spoken to CVG about how “terrifying” the project is, due to the pressure of these demands.
Cooper has confessed that making Warcraft is scary because it is a very specific world, with a very specific look and characters. The movie makers feel that they are obligated to give the people that have spent much of their life playing World of Warcraft exactly what they expect, which is proving a very demanding task so far.
It is quite ironic that the array of positives from the World of Warcraft franchise that has made it so successful is proving to be a burden for the film makers. The weight of expectation is high, however the studio should take on board feedback from the majority of fans to get an overall impression of what the core player base expect and would like to see.
Do you have high expectations for the Warcraft movie which is scheduled to release in 2016, or is the sheer scale of WOW something that simply can’t be replicated on the big screen?
