HBO has planned ahead for a future with internet only TV, speaking out about how broadband streaming could one day kill cable. Home Box Office has confirmed that they will be ready for broadband only distribution, which would see internet streaming as the default method of watching TV.
The company’s CEO Richard Plepler has announced that HBO has been mingling with distributors to ensure that they are ready for any potential switch over. The technology industry is one of the most fast changing and firms that do not move with the times and adapt, often find themselves out of business before too long.

Plepler is still focusing on the here and now however, stating that HBO’s current business model is serving the company well. There is no reason to suggest that the network will be overhauled overnight, anyone waiting for Game of Thrones season 4 need not panic! HBO Go is already a platform put in place to watch cable content online.
Internet based television is still on the rise, with smart TVs and streaming services commonplace on the market today. In an interview with Variety, Plepler added that HBO will be ready to move when the time is right and will not be caught out. Traditional digital cable and satellite TV will still be around for years to come, but broadband broadcasting looks like the future.
