South Park: The Stick of Truth censor screen leaks prior to release

With the imminent release of South Park: The Stick of Truth, this turn-based role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment will release tomorrow on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC platforms in North America. Published by Ubisoft, The Stick of Truth has encountered multiple delays and was expected to surface last year, so we have high expectations for this new title.

Following a variety of games made based on the series The Stick of Truth is the latest edition for fans to enjoy and with Australian gamers expecting this on Thursday 6th March, European enthusiasts will be able to get hold of their copy on Friday 7th March.

It seems South Park: The Stick of Truth has undergone some censorship restrictions for EMEA territories and the European censor screen has emerged ahead of its release. The image in question has been leaked by Reddit user DutchAmerican93, who managed to get their copy early, although because of the embargo DutchAmerican93 has not been able to talk about all the censored screens involved.

After the game releases across the world we are sure that more information will come to light, although we understand that PEGI had no influence over Ubisoft’s censorship decision. The censor screen image is discussed on IGN and they highlight the Reddit user’s pre-ordered insight into what EU-residents will see in the game.

We understand that creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have offered cheeky text descriptions rather than just removing scenes and this will leave plenty to the imagination, without imposing problems that occur with cut scenes that leave gamers wondering what’s actually happening.

The scenes in question are seven censored sequences comprised of mainly anal probing scenes, which will affect console versions in territories like Africa, the Middle East and Europe. While the scenes have encountered trouble in Australia with the rating being refused twice before, it was eventually awarded with R18+ rating.

IGN provides a 13 minute video of the game introducing the beginning and also offers a link to their top ten favourite episodes, which is worth checking out for any fan of the franchise. Are you looking forward to the next instalment in the South Park series? If you have managed to get The Stick of Truth early, we would love to know your first impressions of the game.
