The delay of the new Nexus 10 has certainly thrown a spanner in the works and as such has left many of us to wonder just when Google will unveil the 2014 model? We’ve already discussed how this has taken consumer’s minds off the release of the Nexus 7 3 and the possibility of the Nexus 8.
Since the Google I/O 2014 dates were announced this has now started speculation as to whether the 2014 Nexus 7, 8 or 10 will be announced at the event, and the simple answer would have to be no. The reason for this is that Google never used last year’s event to unveil the 2013 Nexus 7, but rather as a platform to showcase some all-new Google services.
We know that the original Nexus 7 was introduced during Google I/O 2012, but we have a feeling that Google will save such events for other products and not hardware launches.
This would make sense because Apple has an event dedicated to the iPad, and so it stands to reason that Google would do something very similar from now on.
However, if you think that July would be used to hold a special event to showcase a new Nexus 7, 8 and 10, then you might be a little disappointed. Most recent rumors suggest that the Nexus 8 could be unveiled in April and will make its debut ahead of the 2014 Nexus 10.
The Nexus 8 is proving to be a very popular prospect and while there were rumors that the Nexus 7 could be discontinued, the likelihood of that happening is slim and therefore we can expect to see a Nexus 7 3rd-generation in July, which will be a year after the current version.
Even though the Nexus 8 with its larger 8-inch display would be more practical to compete with Apple and Samsung tablets, along with many consumers preferring the larger option – having the choice of the two will be better.
