A few days back we brought you some awesome gameplay footage from the Evolve multiplayer, featuring the battle between 4 hunters and one fearsome monster. In an interesting little twist, the developers from Turtle Rock Studios have said that Evolve is inspired by the Predator franchise.
In a coverage trailer with Game Informer, the Turtle Rock development team said that they envisaged the game being like Predator and questioned why nobody had created a game like this previously. As a result of not being given this experience the team decided to do it themselves, taking inspiration from the classic alien hunter from the movies and video games.
Looking at Evolve now, it is clear to see that a lot of features have been taken from the Predator franchise, but in a beautiful creative way opposed to a cheap rip off way. The 4 playable hunters with advanced weaponry are deployed from an aircraft down in to the jungle where a giant yet hidden beast is lurking, in a twist the creature is also controlled by a player to add unpredictability during the hunt.
Turtle Rock studios do a great job in making their world feel unique, with some stunning visuals which will play out well on the PS4 and Xbox One. The monster itself grows and changes appearance at various stages and also looks incredible. As for the team tracking it down, the soldiers look more like a cross between Gears of War and Duck Dynasty, opposed to Arnold Schwarzenegger and his crew.
What are your initial thoughts on Evolve based on what you have seen so far, do you think the influence from Predator will make it a better game?
