The popularity of Hearthstone has surprised developer Blizzard, since the World of Warcraft inspired card game open beta went live. Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has had a really positive reception so far and this has pleased Team 5, the small development group within Blizzard.
The good news is that Hearthstone is still only in beta and there are still big plans in store for the competitive collectible title. In an interview with IGN, head of Team 5 design Eric Dodds discussed the success that Hearthstone has experienced so far and what the ambitions are for the card game going forward.
Digital collectible card games keep growing in popularity and Dodds said that making an experience like this for players would be awesome. The excitement around the release has been overwhelming and the developer thinks that this will continue, Hearthstone has already been recognized as an e-Sport and has not even had its full official launch yet.
In terms of some key features that are integrated into Hearthstone, Dodds picked out game re-connection support and infrastructure stability. Rather than a match being ended because of lost connection, which is very common in online games, Hearthstone will attempt to pick the signal back up. The importance of solid experience was highlighted, dealing with bugs and issues as soon as they are discovered.
How has your Hearthstone open beta experience been so far, will you be playing the full version when it launches later on this year?
