Movie Planet app for iPhone, Android uses YouTube

By Updated on

After the excitement caused by the Cartoon HD app for iPhone and Android, users have been looking for another movie fix to satisfy their itch. This week, we have news of another app that has become popular, the Movie Planet app for iPhone, iPad and Android that is now available to download.

It’s a free app and claims to offer a free library of 5,000 movies for you to watch and stream instantly on your mobile device, no questions asked.

Some of you may be wondering if the Movie Planet app is legal or not and we are too. In light of this, we’ve uncovered some additional information that you may find interesting.

This app apparently doesn’t store the movies on their servers themselves. Instead, the Movie Planet app downloads the movies from YouTube and offers a way for you to view these movies without going to YouTube directly.

Here’s the official ‘disclaimer’ from the makers:

“The content provided in this app is hosted by YouTube and is available in public domain. We do not upload any Movies to YouTube. This app is just an organized way to browse and view these YouTube Videos.”

Have you tried this app out?

Obviously this practise is still shady since Google doesn’t like movies being uploaded to YouTube, but that doesn’t stop users from uploading thousands of movies everyday.

As far as we’re aware, Movie Planet is also available for Windows Phone. It may not be long until this app disappears from the respective stores though, so act quick if you want to try it out.

Have you been using the Movie Planet app this week? If so, we want to hear your thoughts on it below.
