Budget Xbox One hinted for 2014

By Matt Tran - Feb 3, 2014

We heard rumors last week about a possible White Xbox One along with a few other options that could be released this year. It is now being reported that a budget Xbox One is being hinted at for 2014, helping Microsoft to compete with Sony’s PS4 in terms of price.

Sources over at VG247 have claimed that towards the end of this year Microsoft will launch a cheaper Xbox One, the current model costs $500. The PlayStation 4 is the Xbox One’s direct rival and is $100 cheaper which has been in factor in some people’s choice. It is likely that any new console launched before the holiday season would drop in price to a competitive level similar to that of the PS4.

It is also worth considering Sony may also bring out a slim PS4 this year which may also be cheaper than its current $400 price tag, dealing a new blow to any potential budget Xbox One launch. Since both consoles launched the PS4 has largely had the better of the Xbox One, selling more units and at a faster rate, incredibly there are still regions demanding fresh stock after constant sell outs.

Whilst we do not know if this potential new Xbox One would variate from the existing model, a disc-less digital download only version is something that has been speculated about quite a lot. The drop in price may be reflected by a hardware trim and storage capacity shrink. Microsoft are said to be angry about these rumors and are considering intervening, which may mean something as normally inaccurate stories are mainly ignored.

Would you buy the Xbox One if it was made cheaper, or are you going to buy a different console like the PS4?
