Battlefield 5 gameplay theme and beta prospects

By Peter Chubb - Feb 3, 2014

Rumors of a Battlefield 5 release date have been rampant ever since EA announced that they were not going ahead with the next installment of Need for Speed and had offered the development team redundancy or the chance to work on the next game in the Battlefield series. What we find strange is its tentative release date, which we will get to in a moment.

First of all we would like to talk about the Battlefield 5 gameplay theme, as DICE told Polygon that it will have a police inspired theme with its codename being Havana. That’s all they would share on the game and so leaves so many unanswered questions.

As for the police theme; it would be interesting to know just how DICE will handle this. Do they go down the safe route and make Battlefield 5 based on SWAT, or will we follow some other form of police outfit?

Then there is the proposed 2014 release for Battlefield 5, or whatever DICE decide to call the game. We can’t see them being able to release the game this year because offering a new Battlefield title each year would be pushing it.

Although, it has worked for Call of Duty for many years, but developer duties are split between two developers.

What is more likely is that we will see a Battlefield 5 beta being released later this year, with a public release in 2015. We know that DICE like to release new Battlefield games as a beta first to iron out all the bugs, and this has proved such a success over the past few years.
