Are you a fan of open world games? There are some fantastic games in this genre on the way this year, but if you had the choice of choosing just one, what would be your top PS4 and Xbox One open world game?
With players getting treated to an epic journey with Skyrim, fans are now ready to look forward to the next massive open world game, this time to release on next-gen systems.
One obvious choice if you are a fan of Skyrim is The Elder Scrolls Online. It’s a fantastic looking game with the same mechanics as Skyrim, but with the decisive factor being that this is an MMO – which means paying per month to play it.
If you are looking for an open world game in 2014 on PS4, Xbox One that you won’t have to pay per month to play though, there are still plenty of exciting choices.
We’ve been keeping a close eye on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as we believe it’s a game that could go on to sweep GOTY awards once the awards come around again. Developed by CD Projekt Red, it’s the first Witcher game that has been developed with console gamers able to join in on the fun with PC and Mac.
It’s also significant in the fact that it is thought to feature over 100 hours of core content and will apparently feature a world that is “20% bigger than Skyrim” if you can imagine that – Skyrim was already massive in our opinion.
Moving on, we can’t talk about open world games demand without mentioning Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. For the first time in a long time, we are really pumped up for a Lord of the Rings game for once. There’s been some whispers online that the game has ‘copied’ animations from Assassin’s Creed 2, but frankly – we don’t care.
Shadow of Mordor is looking amazing and it could be the one open world game to surprise this year. It’s simply a must buy if you have watched all of the LOTR movies and the two Hobbit films so far – since it’s meant to be a game that takes place between the events of the two film series.
Another game that can’t be ignored is Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, but like The Elder Scrolls Online – it’s another pay to play. Personally though, we really hope this does well.
Square-Enix came under intense fire for botching the first release on PC, and general feedback so far suggests that the PC and PS3 versions of the reboot are absolutely amazing and well worth the subscription fee.
Although not confirmed yet, is there still a slim chance that we will see a Fallout 4 release date in 2014? If you are talking about demand for open world games, Fallout 4 would top most of your lists without a second thought.
Then again, it has been extremely painful seeing all of the rumors plastered all over the internet, especially with the well-crafted morse code hoax that pretty much duped the entire Fallout community.
Bethesda knows that they have everyone in their pocket at the moment – but sadly we don’t think it’s still on for a 2014 release.
So there we have it, these are just some of our picks that you should be looking out for. Honorable mentions include Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Kingdom Hearts 3, inFAMOUS Second Son and of course the delayed Watch Dogs from Ubisoft which everyone already knows plenty about.
Would you agree that the choices above would be on your lists for open world games demanded on PS4 and Xbox One?
Feel free to get involved on this topic and list any games which we have left out, and you would want to see instead.
