iPhone 6 Air doubts at phablet only size

By Updated on

The moment we moved into 2014 it meant rumors about iPhone 6 would certainly increase heading towards WWDC, although the latest name gaining traction is iPhone 6 Air and this is joined by news of an Apple phablet once again.

We looked at the chances of an iPhone 6 phablet launching this year in an article last week, which highlighted a so-called leak found on a Chinese website claiming the next smartphone would feature a bigger than 5-inch display.

Apple iPhone 6 Air designed for all – Apple’s CEO made it clear he wasn’t in a rush to release an iPhone phablet during an interview last year, but now we’re in 2014 it seems that 4-inches is incredibly small for a smartphone. While many potential iPhone 6 buyers wouldn’t want a Samsung clone, there’s a growing number dying to see Apple’s next phone launch with a bigger than 5-inch screen.

It is worth noting that you’d also find millions of current iPhone owners not wanting anything much bigger than 4-inches, so Apple will need to find a balance between phablet and the traditional iPhone size, or launch more than one model at different sizes.

Personally, we’d like to see the latter option introduced with a thin iPhone 6 Air and bigger phablet model. No matter what Apple choose to do, they cannot hide from the phablet size forever and their core users will still demand a phone-like size for years to come as well.

iPhone 6 with killer solar features

Those backing the iPhone 6 phablet size – we have heard from a number of Product Reviews readers over the past couple of years asking for a phablet from Apple, and recently this included an increase in comments claiming 4-inch phones shouldn’t exist in 2014.

While we wouldn’t agree with those wanting the end of a 4-inch iPhone, it is clear that the demand for an iPhone 6 phablet is massive. Comments like this are now common, “I am not buying the iPhone 6 unless its size is at least 5.5 to 5.9-inches. I’ve had enough of using small phones”.

Do you think Apple should release an iPhone 6 phablet in 2014 and finally realize the massive demand for such a handset? If so, do you also think they need to offer another handset at around 4-inches to cater for the phablet haters?

Graphene iPhone 6

We would also love to see a Graphene iPhone 6 still for a tougher device along with improved battery life, even though it’s not currently possible with a smartphone thanks to the technological setbacks. You will most likely see a Graphene phone at some point in the future, although there’s still a lot of work to be done before this technology will be used on any mobile phone.

I want to see something almost 6-inches with iPhone 6.

An iPhone 6 phablet is a nice idea, but Apple will lose millions of users if they force a bigger size, I’m sure they are smarter than this.

I couldn’t agree more, I like the 4-inch size as it feels like a phone and not a tablet. They are smartPHONES, let’s keep it that way and not smartTABS.

Samsung has a range of smartphone models and sizes, although Apple does amazingly well for just an iPhone, so you can be sure that any iPhone phablet will be joined by a smaller model like we saw with Apple launching the 5S and 5C for different users.

What would I do if I were apple? I would make a new, bigger iPhone.

First, you have a new model, let’s call it the iPhone 6.
It has a 4-inch standard screen, and is similar to the 5s, but probably a new design, better features, etc. What you would expect from a next generation.

Second, you have a bigger one. Let’s call it the iPhone Air.

We need an acceptable size. 5-5.5 inches would probably be a logical choice. Not really a phablet, but a usable, big phone. The UI would have to be tweaked also to fit. This will have similar features to the iPhone 6, but maybe more megapixels for a bigger screen, a more powerful chip, or anything necessary to a bigger phone.

And of course, the iPhone 6c. I wouldn’t expect much from it. Maybe a A7x (the others would have A8?), but none of the gimmicky features. The price should go down slightly from the 5c, and maybe it could be thinner. A more iPod touch 5g look would be cool.

That would satisfy a lot of people. Will Apple do that? Perhaps not. I don’t want a phone bigger that 4-4.2 inches, because it just causes strain on my hand. And I know women can’t even fit bigger ones in their pocket. It’s not a good idea to abandon it.

I’m a big guy with big hands. In fact, when trying out the Galaxy note 3 in my hands it looks the same size as the 5S in average size hands. My wife for example can’t use a galaxy series as easily as I can. I think phones should be more like laptops and you should get the size you’re more comfortable with for whatever reason. Apple makes 11, 13 &15 inch Mac Pros, 7.9 & 9.7 inch iPads, as well as multiple sized iPods. Why not multiple size iPhones?

hi there i hold ipad in one hand soo a 9.7 inch phone not impossible soo a ipad phone great

  • Sam Harris

I think they should have both a smaller size phone and a bigger one!
