If you were one of the UK gamers trying to get hold of a launch PS4 last week, then you will know the chances of this happening without a pre-order was almost impossible. Some people went to midnight PS4 launch events and found all stock gone even before sales started, which took some people by shock. We have heard about a small number of gamers getting lucky with PS4 stock in places like Argos, although this was more about pure luck with people not picking up their pre-order after expiring.
Today, we want to take a quick look at the PS4 UK launch results for unit sales and how well Sony performed with their next-generation console in the first 48 hours.
Numerous retail sources have confirmed this weekend that Sony hit around £87m in total console sales within the first couple of days, and this means Sony beat the Xbox One launch to date in terms of sales. We will of course update Product Reviews readers with solid official figures once they become available, although initial claims put the PS4 now as the UK’s fastest selling console to date.
From what we can tell, it seems like the PS4 shifted around 250,000 units compared to Xbox One’s 150,000 units within 48 hours.
If you are still trying to purchase a PS4 console and haven’t pre-ordered, then you will be happy to know that Sony will soon launch a stock tracker but this hasn’t gone live just yet. You can also read about the PS4 vs. Xbox One raw power in a previous article.
What do you think about the Xbox One and PS4 UK launch so far, are you betting on one easily beating the other in Europe?
