While the Xbox One and PS4 may be wowing gamers at the moment, some consumers are perhaps unconvinced and are waiting for bigger and better things. The Steam Machine is seen as the entry passage for the PC community to finally consider console gaming in the living room.

Steam Machine specs show PS4, Xbox One superiority

After initially dazzling the world with Steam Machine specs, we have a great update on the status of the system to share with you now. One company that has been given permission to build a Steam Machine prototype is iBuyPower.

They have released some images of their prototype model, most of which can be seen over at Engadget here. As you can see, the design looks very similar to the Xbox One, but we understand that the specs are very different indeed.

Although iBuyPower are not willing to share the specs of their Steam Machine prototype just yet, let us remind you that Valve’s own specifications for the top-tier Steam Boxes include a NVIDIA Titan GPU, 16GB of RAM, Intel i7-4770 processor and a whopping 1TB of storage space.

iBuyPower hasn’t confirmed yet, but another report over at TheVerge already reveals what iBuyPower’s Steam Box could contain. Unfortunately though, they don’t match up with Valve’s initial specs listed above. Instead we could see the first prototypes with a multicore AMD CPU, AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card and a 500GB hard drive.

Remember though, there are going to be multiple prototypes around so we could see different boxes with different specs, including those with an NVIDIA setup instead.

Give us your thoughts on the prototype update and whether you would still choose one of these Linux boxes over the Xbox One or PS4.
