The road to the BBM cross-platform app has not been a smooth one because it had been released, then removed. However, those of you with an Android and iOS device have now been able to use the preferred messaging app – well not all.
We informed you that if you had a Wi-Fi only iPod touch or iPad, then you would not be able to use BBM or iOS. A petition was started to try and get BlackBerry to rush the release of this improved support, and while they may not have taken much notice, at least we can now say its release is almost upon us.
BBM for the Wi-Fi only iPad and iPod touch should be released very soon, which we believe will be later today. We do not have a specific time, but we know it should be before the day is out – well in the US anyway.
Having BBM support for non-3G/4G iPad and iPod touch devices will go a long way to stop owners complaining because they have had to wait rather a long time. Since its cross-platform release, BBM has proven very popular and was downloaded about 10 million times in the first day of its release.
BlackBerry has yet to offer any new statistics but we expect the number to be very high. We would love to see some updated stats, along with seeing how many people have uninstalled BBM – just like I did. I tried to use the app, but felt it was not as good as it was hyped up to be.
The next big question is, when will there be a BBM iPad specific app released?
