Canon PowerShot SX170 vs. Nikon D3200 review scores

By Updated on

You might wonder why we would want to talk about the Canon PowerShot SX170 and the Nikon D3200 in the same article; well it’s rather simple. Firstly, one was released this year and the other in 2012, one is a compact superzoom camera and the other a DSLR, and the two have a huge price difference.

However, what impresses us is how different these cameras are; yet their reviews scores are almost the same. It is easy to see why these cameras have high review scores, as they come with some amazing specs and features that will not cost you the earth.

We know there are newer alternatives on the market, but they do not seem to offer that much extra for the increased costs. This is always the way when you are thinking of upgrading your camera, as more often than not newer models do not offer as good a spec bump as you would expect.

The Canon PowerShot SX170 reviews shows a score of 4.6 out of 5, and so most owners were more than impressed with the camera. The majority of owners agree that it is easy to use, and has some great features. However, what stopped the SX170 getting a better review score is the proprietary battery and an online only manual.

As for the Nikon D3200 DSLR camera reviews, this has been given an average score of 4.8 out of 5 stars. Most agree that the camera offers superb image quality and features, impressive HD video and also being easy to use. However, the lack of panorama or HDR modes is a bit of an issue.

If you are in the market for either a compact superzoom or DSLR and do not wish to pay over the top, then you could do a lot worse than the Canon PowerShot SX170 or the Nikon D3200.
