We could see an Apple TV update announcement at the event today, but it might not be the 4th generation hardware some people want to see. The simplest of tweets can be taken out of context sometimes and this includes one made by a well-followed tech enthusiast, MG Siegler, who tweeted about new Apple TV hardware seeing a launch during the Oct 24th keynote.
This tweet was made in passing and led to some major blogs publishing news on the Apple TV 4G releasing this month, but since then Siegler has poured some water over this statement.
In a recent blog post, Siegler explains that his comment about an Apple TV update arriving soon was not made without “no reason”, but now it seems that the major new hardware will launch a little later.
Interestingly, Siegler talks about an Apple TV update with new specs before some major refresh that’s more innovative, so with this in-mind we could see an Apple TV 3.5 before a full 4th generation is released with new features.
These claims are based on “whispers” rather than concrete insider information, so we find it a little confusing that an Apple TV 4G could arrive any other time than at the event today, or at the least in 2013 anyway.
It sounds like some big changes are on the way with Apple TV, not the full HDTV, but they might not arrive until nearer WWDC 2014.
